What a beautiful night at T-Mobile ballpark in Seattle! Oh, wait…
The Giants are beginning a rescheduled two-game series against the Mariners at Oracle Park tonight due to poor air quality in Seattle. The game definitely has a “Palm Springs” sort of vibe to it as just last week the Giants were also facing the Mariners here at Oracle Park. Last Tuesday they faced Ljay Newsome (who’s pitching tonight) and last Wednesday the Giants also had Yaz leading off and Dubon batting 9th (which is actually pretty standard in the Giants lineup nowadays).
I note some major differences below (along with some tongue-in-cheek pics), but it largely feels like a home game on the field with the Mariners wearing their gray road jerseys.
This whole “on the road at home” craziness actually has some precedent with the Giants, as they were the road team at home on July 23rd, 2013, when they made up a July 4 rainout at Cincinnati with a doubleheader at Oracle Park.

Live Game Notes
- Top 1st – Ljay Newsome pitching
- Maybe the Giants should always start batting first? They snag the early lead via a Solano RBI single.
- Yaz BB, Dick 1B, Flores FC (Dick out at 2B), Belt 5F, Solano 1B, Longoria K
- Score: Giants 1, Mariners 0
- Bottom 1st – Drew Smyly pitching
- Smyly is hit hard but escapes the loud contact with a Seager K and France fly out.
- Crawford F8, Moore 1B, Lewis 1B, Seager K, France F8
- Top 2nd
- Joey Bats still looking for his first Major League homer…
- Crawford 2B, Bart P4, Dubon 1B, Yaz 6-3
- Score: Giants 2, Mariners 0
- Bottom 2nd
- Impressive: Smyly strikes out the side
- Torrens K, White K, Lopes K
- Top 3rd
- The Giants are 22-11 when they score 4 or more runs. They just dropped 5. It’s the 3rd inning. So yea, I’m feeling like it’s a Giants W
- Dick 2B, Flores P4, Belt HR, Solano F8, Longoria HR, Bart 3U
- Score: Giants 5, Mariners 0
- Bottom 3rd
- Smyly now with six strikes through three innings. Pretty impressive considering his last start was on August 1st.
- Ervin K, Crawford L5, Moore K
- Top 4th
- The Giants are now just toying with the Mariners pitching staff. Four straight hits are good for another 3 runs and the Giants have just about locked this game up.
- Dubon BB, Yaz 2B (Dubon scores), Dickerson 1B, Belt 1B, Solano 1B, (Dick scores on a past ball) Longoria K, Crawford K
- Score: Giants 8, Mariner 0
- Bottom 4th
- France hit a rocket at Crawford (108.2 mph) which bounced off his glove and they awarded France with the hit. Since that ball went from double play to base hit, Torrens’ double scores two.
- Things get worse as Baragar comes in and walks three straight batters. Baragar’s outing looks even worse as Cahill strikes out Moore.
- Lewis K, Seager BB, France 1B, Torrens 2B, White K (Baragar pitching), Lopes BB, Ervin BB, Crawford BB (Cahill pitching) Moore K
- Score: Giants 8, Mariners 3
- Top 5th
- Bart strikes out on three pitches and the Giants have lost their momentum.
- Bart K, Dubon K, Yaz K
- Bottom 5th
- Bart throws out Lewis for the final out. It was pretty awesome.
- Lewis 1B, Seager K, France 3F
- Top 6th
- Two ground outs to second results in the Giants second straight 3-up 3-down inning
- Dick 4-3, Flores F7, Belt 4-3
- Bottom 6th
- Torrens BB, White K, Lopes 1B, Ervin K, Crawford K
- Top 7th
- Crawford’s home run extends the Giants lead. Belt-Crawford-Longo all have homer tonight.
- Solano K, Longoria 3U, Crawford HR, Bart 1B, Dubon
- Bottom 7th – Sam Coonrod pitching
- Moore gets up under his own ability after being hit in the head by Coonrod. Coonrod took us on a wild ride but he escaped without allowing any runs,
- Moore HBP, Lewis FC, France L9, Torrens K
- Top 8th
- Flores took four straight balls, but otherwise, a pretty mundane inning.
- Yaz 5-3, Dick 6-3, Flores BB, Belt F7
- Bottom 8th – Rico Garcia pitching
- Four of Garcia’s first five pitches were balls but he battles back for a quick inning.
- White BB, Lopes K, (Marmolejos pinch hitting), 5-6-3 DP
- Top 9th
- Longoria racked up his second hit of the night, but we are STILL waiting for that Joey Bart HR
- Solano P6, Longoria 1B, Crawford K, Bart 3U
- Bottom 9th
- Small scare by (Jarlin) Garcia, but he keeps his ERA at 0
- Crawford HBP, Strange-Gordon FC, Lewis K, Seager BB
